J-Display
I plan to make available a little piece of HW with 8 green LED (7 digits) displays, a small uC (probably MicroChip) and a smart IC. The J-Display will connect to the (your) JCM portal and will display information like:
- Users on-line
- Total Forum Topics
- Total People Online Now
- Registered Users
- Personal PM's
- and so on
In other words, you will have on your desk a display that will show you numbers that represent data from your JCM.
How it will work
The J-Display will be connected to the PC via USB or Serial. You will run a small app on your computer to help your J-Display connect to your JCM and display relevant info. The information will be "downloaded" to J-Display every x minutes. If you are disconnected from the internet it will simply keep the info from the last update and after 10 minutes will display something like "outdated data please update" in a coded form. JCM will be modified to output the relevant data to a file to which J-Display will connect.
What is the purpose of this?
Well after being a "user" of JCM for quite a few years I found that it is useful to have a look at relevant information without opening the browser, log in and looking at my website. Other advantages are that you can actually make the J-Display show you any data from your JCM.
Any costs?
Yes, it will cost. As this is not going to be just my time, but also something physical that you can touch. Starting cost could be as low as 35-40USD/unit + S&H fees.
That's it?
No. There will be upgrades and updates (dot-matrix display, dual colour, multi colour), improved functionality and new features.
By when?
In the near future if there is a need for it. If there is no need then never.
Note: Development did not start yet, but I have a pretty good idea on what to do.

PS: All the profit from the first 100 units will be used for JCM improvements and sustainability. This means audit the code by a recognized company, certification of JCM (hacker safe style), code improvement, and so on. I will not take this money and use it for my own needs. I hope to sell 100 units in 1-2 years. |
